Capoeira is a physical, musical, community game. Originally a martial art developed by african slaves in NE Brasil and hidden from slave masters as a dance, today capoeira incorporates a variety of kicks, dodges, acrobatics, music, and ritual into a community celebration that is challenging, engaging, and rewarding.
Hans “Lambada” Barklis has been training capoeira under the tutelage of Mestre Pedro “Cachorro” Cruz (from Salvador da Bahia, Capoeira São Salvador) since 2007. Hans has practiced and played from North Eastern Brazil to Veracruz, Mexico, to Seattle, Portland, the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond.
Hans offers classes for kids at and in schools through Ethos, offers classes for kids and adults at Vibe, and also offers classes in schools through Latino Network.
